Culminating Blog Reflection

The journey through my Capstone project was one of the unforgettable in my life. Volunteering at Walgreens was definitely a rewarding experience, and I'm glad I got to spend my time there.
When it came to critical thinking, I definitely had to wrap my brain around all the critical facts I discovered within working at Walgreens pharmacy as well as doing research for my paper. Discovery facts about healthcare wasn't really easy. Although much of what I discovered throughout the Capstone were facts, it was hard to put the pieces together because my topic is just new I couldn't find the right facts.

For example the fact that children 26 years old can still stay on their parents insurance and other resources 21 years old have to apply for new insurance.  Also, when it came to facts about who are going to benefit on this law I made dots to figure out who are mainly going to benefit on this law. When it came to communication, there was definitely a lot of talking with my mentor and checking in on our progress, as well as a lot of communication with the other pharmacist. My mentor and I communicated every week on what was going on, and how am I doing with the Capstone. During my research for my paper, I definitely talked a lot with my mentor because I asked for the effects of Obamacare on the pharmacy. Now, collaboration and creativity was really hard, because you can't really change anything there it was set up like that. The event of collaboration and creativity came when me and Evelyn made a design on the container where we put all the ready prescription. We definitely had to think of creative design to kinda impress the patient. It came out really well most of the patient was complementing it and I'm really proud of that.

I definitely gained a lot of new knowledge while volunteering for such a short time at Walgreens. I never thought I'd learn and actually do what pharmacist do. Personally, I NEVER thought in a million years I'd be volunteering at Pharmacy. That in itself was a huge stepping stone for me because I was going pursue this career that I don't even have any idea. I didn't know how I was going to react to anything I would discover, so the act itself of choosing to volunteer at Pharmacy was such a huge growing experience and a time for me to step out of my comfort zone.
Intellectually, I discovered so many unknown facts that I was really amazed. A lot of my work was spent organizing medicine and refilling medicine.

A definite challenge I faced was learning how to be calm and have courage to give the senior english class presentation. I didn't know how to give my peers the necessary information for them to be interested in my topic without overloading then with many information in a short amount of time. I wanted them to care because I care about such a strong topic. I wanted them to know if I can do it they can also can and I wanted to know how pharmacist are important. I was scared no one would care about what I had to say. That's when I came to my previews teacher for help, and they really gave me a boost of confidence! I explained my worries and doubts to them, and they were able to help guide me with information that I felt like my peers would be interested. However, even after meeting with my previews teacher and getting the information, I was still very nervous to do the presentations. I can't believe how much fun I had at Walgreens Pharmacy and doing this project. Im definitely honored that I got a chance to work with such amazing people.

The 4th Day January 2, 2014

Thursday was my fourth time working in a pharmacy. I came then my mentor showed me how to dispose the expired medicine. I took a very big box and put all the expired medicine in every shelf I took three hours and thirty minutes. Then I went to the storage room to take my brake. After my break I went to the storage room and to make sure that the expired medicine are in the right corner.  I finish checking the boxes in two hours. My last two hours was checking the prescription. It’s my last day I can’t believe I did it. I’m so thankful to my mentor. I’ve learned so much every hour working there was really fun. The 1st Day October 28, 2013

Monday was my first time working in a pharmacy. I was really nervous. I can't even explain what I felt, but I know my mentor will be there to help me. My mentor guide me all the way. She gave me uniform, locker, and my own name tag, which i think it's really cool. I met all the stuff of pharmacy and they tried to explain a lot of stuff to me. The first thing I learned was to print something on the computer if it's a message for the pharmacy. I watched a lot of certain move they do on the computer. My mentor showed me how to organize the medicine in order. I got to put the medicine on a certain container. The last thing i did was to fix a paper for the patient's prescription. I was really tired on my first day, but i enjoyed it. I'm excited for my next task.
